Justice G.P. Mathur to act as NHRC Chairperson

The President has authorised Mr Justice G P Mathur, Member of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) to act as its Chairperson with effect from June 1.

This arrangement will continue until the appointment of a new Chairperson of the NHRC. The post is currently lying vacant, an official statement said.

Mr Justice Mathur, 66, became a Member of the NHRC in April last year after retiring as a judge of the Supreme Court in January, 2008.
