    Created in November, 1951, by the merger of the erstwhile BBCI Railway with the State Railways of Saurashtra, Rajputana and Jaipur, has six divisions---Mumbai, Vadodara, Ahmedabad, Ratlam, Rajkot and Bhavnagar---and serves all of Gujarat and parts of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh, includes the Churchgate-Dahanu Road section of Mumbai's suburban railway.

    Southern Railway

    Came into existence in its present form in April, 1951, through the merger of three state railways--Madras and Southern Mahratta Railway, the South Indian Railway, and the Mysore state railway, covers the states of Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Puducherry and parts of Andhra Pradesh, headquartered at Chennai, has six divisions--Chennai, Tiruchirapalli, Madurai, Palghat, Trivandrum and Salem.

    Eastern Railway

    Formed in April, 1952 by the integration of the East Indian Railway and the Bengal-Nagpur Railway, has four divisions--Sealdah, Howrah, Asansol and Malda.

    Has a network of more than 3800 route kilometres and 5818 track kilometres, connecting 476 stations over five divisions across Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka, includes part of Mumbai's suburban railway system.

    Created by amalgamating the reorganized Hubli division from South Central Railway with Bangalore and Mysore divisions of Southern Railway, operational from April 1, 2003, headquarters at Hubli in Karnataka, encompasses routes passing through parts of Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Goa and Maharashtra.
